Altyn-Arashan is a high-altitude valley with hot springs near Karakol. The usual approach runs through Ak-Suu. There is no public transport to the valley itself, and the vehicle track is rough enough to require a suitable four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Leave early and choose the approach in advance: hike from the Ak-Suu area or arrange a transfer with an appropriate off-road vehicle. Travel time changes with weather, road conditions and the exact starting point. Avoid a tight evening schedule in Karakol because mountain delays are common.
